Defend Alberta - Recall the MLAs Who Overrode Your Rights

Find your MLA or riding, see where to sign, join volunteers, track recall timelines, and access tools to fuel community-led action.

What is a Recall?

A recall is a lawful tool that allows citizens to petition for the removal of an elected official who no longer represents their constituents.

How does it work?

Citizens gather signatures in their riding. If enough signatures are collected, a by-election is triggered - giving you the chance to vote for new representation before the next general election.

Why should I support recalls?

Operation Total Recall stands for your right to accountability. We’re here because overriding your Canadian Charter Rights crossed a line. Each riding, though, has its own reasons - from being ignored to harmful policies. We empower you to act on what matters most - whether it’s your MLA’s actions, ministerial decisions, or party-line votes. It’s your recall, and we’re your support.

How can I get involved?

Sign

If you’re in a recall riding, sign - every signature matters, and high thresholds mean yours truly counts.

Volunteer

Canvassers must be local, but volunteers can be from anywhere - boots on the ground mean signatures happen.

Spread the word

Recalls have little-to-no marketing budget - be the voice. Share on social media, talk to neighbours, and help people find the facts.

You’re already in the right place. On this site, you can find your local recall, see where to sign, volunteer, and track timelines. Then, follow your recall campaign’s social media for real-time updates. Everything you need to start - and win - your recall is right here.

How do I apply?

Applications for a recall petition are submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer. Applicants must provide:

The Notice of Recall Petition requires the applicant to provide a statement of 100 words or less stating the reason for the recall. In determining the number of words in the statement, Elections Alberta will use the electronic word count feature of a word processing application. Submissions with more than 100 words will not be accepted.

The Notice of Recall Petition will be made public. The statements be made available to be reviewed by all electors signing the petition. Elections Alberta will not correct any errors or otherwise amend the submitted statement.
